The first question we hear from any equipment owner listing machines on Dozr is “what if something happens to my equipment?”

We get the same question from renters, too, who wonder how they’ll complete a job if a machine breaks down.

Overcoming these questions of “what if…?” has helped both lenders and renters pull more profit by getting machines listed on Dozr and out to work, but we understand that sending equipment to someone else’s jobsite – or trusting a stranger’s machine for your work – can make even the most level-headed business owner anxious.

That anxiety is part of the old world of work, though. We like to simply say “Dozr has you covered,” because we understand the stresses contractors face and have baked quality control and protection against downtime into every step of the Dozr process. 

Dozr is for everyone, but not “just anyone”

To a lot of people the sharing economy can feel very impersonal, like you’re inviting the whole world to drive your rock truck or hop in the cab of your tractor. In fact it’s still a pretty personal process to us, even if the customers are farther away.

When renters sign up to use Dozr, we certify that they have the experience needed to operate the machines they’re renting. More than that, we also ask how they’ll use the machines they rent through Dozr so we can protect against irresponsible uses of certain machines, or suggest equipment that could do a better job of the job at hand.

We go through the same certification process with equipment lenders, too. Equipment owners must send pictures and inspection reports for their machines before we’ll put them up for rent, helping us make sure we’re listing high-quality, well-maintained equipment that won’t go down on a renter’s job site.

Insurance Keeps Lenders Safe

We’re contractors, and we understand that equipment is money: you spent tens of thousands to purchase it and without it, you can’t work.

We also understand that accidents happen, and sorting out the aftermath can often take longer than anyone wants it to. That’s why we have a unique insurance offering from our partners at Fairfax that fully covers equipment rented on Dozr.

We’re the only online equipment sharing service with insurance built into our platform, and the price of insurance is baked right into the price renters see on Dozr.com, so staying covered is simple.

Mechanics Everywhere

Renters are usually less concerned with damaging equipment than they are about the condition of the equipment and how it will be serviced during a rental. Equipment owners lending machines out share this concern – they can’t be traveling to service a machine every couple weeks.

We tackle this problem in a few different ways. First, renters will see our mechanics come to service machines every couple weeks in accordance with manufacturer service recommendations. This helps machines stay up and running, and prevents any issues from wear-and-tear.

Second, if something breaks, renters can call us to get a mechanic out to inspect the damage and try to repair it. We’ll get a report of what happened and how – whether there was an accident or wear-and-tear caused the breakdown - and then we’ll ask equipment owners if they want to send a mechanic of their own, or one from our network.

While some fixes can take longer depending on the circumstance, we typically give our mechanics four hours. If they can’t get a machine up-and-running within that four-hour window, we’ll replace the rented machine – the simplest fix for downtime.

The care we take to make sure we’re only renting high-quality, well-maintained machines pays off, and rental machine downtime is really rare. Damage is even more rare, but we know that even the best odds leave room for skepticism.
